A Song To Sing O

Melvyn Morrow

August 6-7, 2010

A Song to Sing O is set in George Grossmith's dressing room at the Savoy Theatre in London in 1889. He is about to embark on an American tour which incidentally earned him a great deal of money. He has just played Jester Jack Point in The Yeoman of the Guard to a matinee audience. He proceeds to enlighten us on the roles that he has played and his clashes with Gilbert, who was a bit of a conceited bully and continuously terrified him at rehearsals. (Gilbert liked to direct his own work). We learn a great deal about his career, Victorian Theatre and hear those brilliant "patter" songs as well as some of his own musical compositions.
