Once on Chunuk Bair

April 22-25, 2015

Once on Chunuk Bair By Maurice Shadbolt. This is a drama depicting the outstanding bravery of the soldiers and the blundering incompetence of the British commanders. The 8th of August 1915 has been called a nation-defining day. With the inept British Generals watching from the safety of their battleships, nearly 800 men from the Wellington Battalion NZ Infantry Brigade torment the hill of Chunuk Bair, above Gallipoli, and against overwhelming numbers of Turkish soldiers, held it. Later that night, after the command to retreat came, only 70 Kiwi soldiers returned. Please purchase tickets at Invercargill City Council Booking office.
