18 Eden Avenue a new musical by Roger Gimblett and Sally Bodkin-Allen
After the success of the World Premiere of Killer Boobs by Tim Hambleton and directed by Gussie Johnson, Repertory is living up to it's mission to provide, promote and foster the local performing arts. This time however, Repertory will be producing the brand new musical 18 Eden Avenue by Roger Gimblett and Sally Bodkin-Allen. Roger and Sally are both born and bred Southlanders and even though Roger now lives in Australia they both have still found time to collaborate on many projects over the years.
Although not Repertory's normal genre, Repertory have produced musicals previously e.g. The Last 5 Years, Mum's Choir and our very popular Pantomimes. 18 Eden Avenue promises to be another opportunity for Repertory to once again show the incredible talent that is here in Southland.
To do this, Repertory have enlisted a very experienced production team to stage this production.
The directing duties for this production fall into the capable hands of Jason Fraser who was most recently seen in Jonathan Tucker's production of Wanted - One Body! where he played the role of Mr Mickleby earlier this year. Jason's directing credits include the 2021 award winning (OSTAS) production of Blackadder, The Golden Age and the 2018 production of Blackadder Goes Forth, The Play. Jason also has extensive experience in musical theatre and has performed many times for IMT, most recently in last year's Les Miserables.
Repertory is indeed lucky to have as the musical director, the composer of the show. Sally Bodkin-Allen by day teaches music at the Southern Institute of Technology and Invercargill’s Out of School Music Classes. Sally’s choral compositions have been performed by Femme, the Southland Girls’ High School choir, and she has also composed and arranged music for local brass band performers. Roger and Sally have written a number of musicals together, and these have been performed throughout New Zealand and Australia.
Joining the team as choreographer is Hana Skeggs. Hana is well known throughout Southland and the dance community. She is the co-owner of Invercargill's biggest dance studio La Muse and has been directing and choreographing Christmas at the Stadium since it's inception. Hana has also performed onstage for Invercargill Musical Theatre Company and many other productions throughout New Zealand and abroad.
